February 2018

Another month closer to spring! This month I planted summer leek on the 11th of  February in pots and it germinated well. Now I have placed it in an unheated bright bedroom upstairs, so it won't go leggy on me. On the 21st I sowed artichoke and aubergine in pots, but they are still not showing, they need a good 14 days to sprout.

This month I ordered liquid feed for my seedlings and container plants from GREEN24
They have specialised feed for different types of plants and exotics.

The seed potatoes that I ordered from my Organic supplier, at the beginning of the month, arrived last week. Now they are chitting in egg cartons, along with the leeks.

hof Jeeble

Hof Jeeble has an enormous selection of seed potato varieties to choose from, most of them organically farmed if possible.

I also purchased a weed suppressant cover for my beds, as I have a lot of pesky perennial weeds, since the renovation. I ordered it from HaGa-Welt at a reasonable price for  25 x 1.20 m at 1,19 EUR the meter in 80g/m² quality. I am thrilled with quality as it is dense enough to not let the light through. but will be easy enough to cut Xs in for the plants.

It was sunny with blue skies today and I wanted to do something for the garden on my free day, but low and behold the arctic ice winds stopped me. The earth is frozen and hard as a rock, so no collecting any compost from the recycling depot today. I'll have to wait for weather to thaw now.

Tomorrow I will enjoy my heater in the potting shed and sharpen my tools, maybe also clean the clay pots and containers while I wait for spring!

Happy pottering!
